We all remember the bullies of our youth. Every class had one, that one kid that, at the beginning of the school year, zeroed in on the one kid in the class that everybody picked on. There may have been something different about that kid, he wore funny clothes, had a funny haircut, or maybe wasn’t the brightest kid in class. But the reason the bully picked on him, was because he never fought back. Why not? Maybe the kid getting the grief thought that if he was just nice to the bully, the bully would leave him alone. Usually that doesn’t work, and there is only one thing to do, beat the bully at his own game.
The bullies, for the sake of this discussion, come in the form of Democrats. They are never afraid to get in the dirt and fight for their causes. And if that means beating up on the shy dorky kid, a.k.a., Republicans, so be it. As much as we all might hate to admit it, conservatives, and Republicans, have always been the kid that all the Democrat bullies picked on. And for much of the same reasons. Republicans never seem to fight back. They just sit back and take it, and what’s worse, it has been going on for quite a while. It wasn’t always that way. Ronald Reagan was certainly no pushover for Democrat bullies. Reagan threw punches, and he threw them hard when he had to, but he often did it in a subtle way. He led the Democrats to the quicksand before they even knew they were headed there, and when it dawned on them where they were standing, it was too late.
But somewhere between Reagan and now, something has changed, and not for the better. For some odd reason, Republicans became obsessed with making the media like them. They have never seemed to come to grips with the fact that the media is never going to like them. Oh, they do if you are a Republican and you are willing to trash your fellow Republicans. Then they love you, but if you become the Republican nominee for something, the breakup is short and brutal. John McCain found that out the hard way. Republicans have endured the likes of Mitt Romney, Paul Ryan, and Chris Christie. Republicans all too happy to smile and go squishy in the hopes that Democrats and the media would conclude that, see, Republicans aren’t so bad! It was all completely eye-roll worthy.
It was Donald Trump who made millions of conservatives and Republicans see just exactly what we have sat back and endured for way too long. And it has made a whole generation of Republicans begin to push back, and in the process, demand that the people they elect push back right along with them. That pushback was instrumental in Republicans taking back the House in 2022. Republicans across the country had hope there were new sheriffs in town. Sheriffs that would give the bullies a taste of their own medicine. Well, here we are. Faced not only with an incompetent, unqualified, dementia-addled buffoon serving as President, we now also know that he is the most corrupt and compromised President in American history. Republicans control the House, the place where impeachments originate. As the evidence mounts that proves Joe Biden is the Don Corleone of the Biden crime family, and that family’s main product for sale is influence peddling, Republicans have some decisions to make. Will they pull the trigger and make the right ones?
Three members of Congress have filed articles of impeachment. Reps. Marjorie Taylor-Greene (R-GA), Lauren Boebert (R-CO), and Andy Ogles (R-TN). Boebert’s is the latest and may have the most bang. She cites the disaster at the southern border being a dereliction of duty by Joe Biden. She said to Fox News Digital, “I introduced articles of impeachment in the last Congress and had fully intended to introduce them in this Congress, but I was also giving some other committees and leadership the opportunity to lead on this.” But in an interesting twist, Boebert apparently suspected what might go on, or not go on, in this Congress, and planned accordingly. She added, “It’s about Joe Biden’s failure to secure the southern border. And I did this so at any time, if the committees or leadership does not step up and actually do something about the President’s failure to secure the southern border and keep our country safe, then I will call my legislation my articles of impeachment for a privileged motion.” What does that mean? Under Rule IX in the House, Boebert would read the articles on the House floor in their entirety. House leadership then has two days to respond to see if it will be sent to committees or a vote on the articles.
So how did Boebert’s articles of impeachment go over with House Speaker Kevin McCarthy? Well, he made sure everyone was happy. He made a special provision for the articles of impeachment, allowing the House to vote on a “rule” to send the articles to both the Judiciary and Homeland Security committees. Those committees would then be free to investigate them however they see fit. The olive branch kept the articles alive, but also insulated anti-impeachment House GOP members from any criticism for opposing the measures. Translation: smile, be nice, and don’t make the bully mad. McCarthy, while trying to protect the slim majority Republicans have in the House, said, “I think to prematurely bring something up like that, to have no background in it, it undercuts what we are doing at the committee level.” Premature? No background? The House Oversight Committee seems to be gathering plenty of “background” on a daily basis.
So, the answer to, does the GOP have, well, the cajones, to put the head honcho of the Biden crime family out of business, seems to be, if we are nice to the bully, the bully will be nice to us.
