Since the November Presidential election, everyone except Democrats has done autopsies on the Democrat party. Here is where they went wrong, here is what they should be doing, here is what they shouldn’t be doing. The results of those autopsies vary greatly depending on who you talk to. There are not many, but a few Democrats have been able to look in the mirror and deliver the hard truths. But one thing is for sure: the party as a whole is not listening to anyone. And the one group of people that both Democrats and Republicans need to carry on into the future, young people, may be the very thing that is sending Democrats further into the political abyss.
Whether you love him or hate him, one of those few trying to warn Democrats that they are wading deeper into the quicksand is comedian Bill Maher. Sure, he rips on Republicans, but he also has no problem giving the business to Democrats when he thinks they need it. And lately, he has been dishing it out to them in heaping doses, and in most of those cases, he is spot on in his analysis. On a recent Friday night episode of his HBO show, Maher cited some pretty alarming, although not surprising, statistics. Just 23 percent of Democrats under 30 said they were proud to be Americans. Even worse, 54 percent said they were “embarrassed” by it. As the kids might say, WTF?? Maher called it what it is, “a serious problem for Democrats.” He then filleted them as only Maher can for the leftist nonsense that it is saying, “Embarrassed? Like America is your mom picking you up at school? You’re embarrassed to be an American? Well guess what – the feeling’s mutual because you have no perspective.”
Maher then proceeded to lay some facts on the poor, embarrassed snowflakes, “Is America perfect? No, of course not. No country is. But the US is leagues ahead of the rest of the world on most of the progressive issues that are important to young people. America has 14 million women-owned businesses. Seventeen percent of black women are starting businesses, which is faster than white women or white men. Gay Americans are free to marry, and 49 percent of them own property. Yes, in America, Gays buy buildings. In other places, they get thrown off them. And we proudly live in a land where every TV commercial features a mixed-race couple, including the ones where it makes no sense. Mom’s black, dad’s white, and the kid’s Asian.” Maher added that Congress is “the most diverse ever,” and described it as a “useless rainbow.”
Maher laid the blame for the America-hating next generation squarely where it belongs, at the feet of the Democrat party elite and leadership for fomenting the “America sucks” attitude among young people in the party. Maher is right on that point. The Democrat party and its entrenched elitists are like the parents who think it’s funny and cute when little Johnny says the F-word. But now, young Democrats are all in on their support for terrorist groups like Hamas, thinking they are some sort of freedom fighter movement, and chanting “from the river to the sea” when they can’t name the river or the sea, and have no idea what groups like it stand for. Once again, Maher laid a truth bomb on Democrats, saying, “If the thought leaders in the Democrat party keep encouraging and not rebuking the idea that America is cringe and the people who run Gaza are great, the Democrats are doomed.”
But it’s not just the upper echelon of the Democrat party that Maher should be blaming. We must be up to at least two generations of young Americans who are taught from the minute they darken the schoolhouse doorway that America is evil. That we are nothing more than a nation of racist, sexist, bigoted, homophobe capitalist imperialists. That America is inherently bad, and the only solution is to tear it down and start over as socialists. Which brings us to Maher’s other problem, which is, who is currently in charge of the Democrat party? Well, right now, most Americans would tell you that it’s Bernie Sanders, or AOC, maybe it’s the squad. There’s not a knat’s eyebrow’s difference in what those young people are hearing in school, and what they hear when they turn on the television and see anyone of the above-mentioned people.
So far, Democrats have only lost badly in one election cycle, the last one. They are going to have to lose at least one more before they might begin to figure out that encouraging young people in their party to embrace “America sucks” mentality, and root for terrorists is a losing proposition. But by that time, it may be too late for them. Much to Bill Maher’s chagrin, it was President Donald Trump himself who said, “If you teach children to hate America, how do you expect them to defend it?” You almost have to wonder if young people being embarrassed to be Americans was a topic at dinner for Trump and Maher. In a twisted sort of way, it’s something they actually agree on.
For now, young people who are not proud of, or are embarrassed to be Americans, are absolutely a monster that Democrats and the left have created. That monster may just be the one thing that takes them out.
