As they drafted America’s founding documents, the Founding Fathers incorporated debate into those documents. They didn’t want lawmakers to always get along and agree on everything. They wanted discussion, debate, and even arguing. They knew contention would ultimately breed American greatness because everyone would be forced to hear the other side. Fast forward almost 250 years. Americans still have very different ideas about how to govern America. But the spirit of that debate and discussion is barely alive, and average Americans can no longer tolerate those with whom they disagree, even family members and friends. As conservatives, we have a definite idea of what an “ideal vision” of America would look like. We also know that the left has one as well. Some of them were recently asked about that vision. As you might guess, the whole thing was a train wreck.
Last weekend, lefties from every corner of the U.S. took to the streets of several large cities for their “Hands Off” anti-Trump rallies. They marched, protested, yelled and screamed, and all wore their favorite costumes. From Palestinian keffiyehs to “Handmaiden’s Tale” Pilgrim-era dresses and bonnets, leftists came out in droves to “make their voices heard,” as if we couldn’t hear them already ad nauseum every day. Some folks from Fox News Digital decided to wade among the crowd and ask them this question: “What is your ideal vision of America?” Hilarity, stupidity, and hypocrisy, not necessarily in that order, ensued.
I have always had a question: if these people are so proud of what they espouse, why do they need COVID-era masks? The answer to that question is no doubt just as rooted in facts and being educated as the first question. One masked protester replied, “For me an ideal America is where people can protest like this and have their voices heard, and they are the ones who are running the country – not somebody who’s taken over the country and no longer allows the First Amendment to be spoken.” Okay, a few things. Does this person mean that people like him would be running the country forever? Does he mean one-party rule? Yes. Yes, he does. So much for freedom of speech. As far as free speech is concerned, this person is out among hundreds of other people like himself protesting. How are his free speech rights being taken away? Certainly not in the way the free speech rights of some conservative University of California-Davis students representing Turning Point USA were recently. A group of rabid leftists knocked a table over and literally chased them from where they were sitting. Their crime, handing out information to other students. Doesn’t exactly sound like free speech for everyone. You can bet this yahoo does absolutely not mean free speech for everyone, just those who agree with him.
Another genius attending the rally said this, “An ideal America looks like a country where its citizens can live in dignity, can live in peace and prosperity, where, yeah, we are not afraid to exercise our free speech, our constitutional given rights, where everyone ideally, is housed, is fed, makes a fair living wage. Again, who is stopping you from speaking? Seems to me it’s people like you that want to stop me from speaking. Sorry, but it’s not my problem you are not emotionally mature enough to handle hearing an opinion you disagree with. Then he talks about where everyone is housed and fed, but then he talks about a living wage. If you have a “living wage,” why is it the government’s responsibility to see that you are housed and fed?
For others, social justice was part of an ideal America. One person said, “Diverse, which is a bad word these days. Women have rights and freedom. And we live in peace.” There are people from all walks of life pursuing the American Dream, and as a woman, I don’t have a problem with my rights or freedom. But we know what she is talking about: being able to have an abortion the day before giving birth is somehow a right. Another said, “Civil rights, gay rights, enough food and healthcare for every single person, and the right attitude toward other countries, a helping attitude. My head is spinning, but I’ll do my best to translate. Can she state who does not have any civil rights in this country? What rights do gay Americans not have? But the best part is the right attitude toward other countries. Does she mean the countries who shout” Death to America?” And a helping attitude? Is there a country on the planet the U.S. does not help? Wendy is a professor and proves that by her response. “An ideal America is one where everyone has a social safety net and can be successful in their jobs and make enough money, a living wage – to be able to take care of themselves and their families. I’ll ask again for those who didn’t hear the first time. Why do you need a safety net if you have a living wage?!
It really doesn’t take much to realize that what the “ideal America” is for these people, is socialism. We already knew that, but what we need to also know is that, ultimately, it is not about Donald Trump. It is about implementing socialism, pure and simple. We need to know that they are not giving up and they are not going away. They are also brainwashing younger Americans to think the same way. And with the help of a totally incompetent educational system, they are achieving that as well. By all means, let’s have a good time making fun of these buffoons, but as ridiculous as they are, they are equally dangerous.
