For some, the struggle to live their lives as their “authentic selves” is literally lifelong. They may have different beliefs, a different lifestyle, or something else altogether that they feel prevents them from presenting who they really are to the rest of the world. Some live with that reality better than others. Sadly, some are unable to live that way. But then there are those who just get sick and tired of pretending and let it all hang out. This week, for the Democrat Party, their convention is just that: it promises to be one glorious coming-out party.
In the modern era, Democrats have tried to portray themselves as the party of the downtrodden. The party of the unaccepted, the fringe, and the outcast. During the Vietnam War, Democrats went from representing the blue-collar working man to anti-war hippies whose goal was to tear down the status quo. The left wing of the party has only gotten more and more powerful and influential, and they represent the acceptance of things that even other Democrats would never have thought would become the norm of the party. Yet here we are. It hasn’t always been this way. Even very recently, those who might be called moderate Democrats dug in and made sure the rest of the party knew they weren’t going anywhere. But it is becoming more and more clear that there will not be a home for them in the new Democrat party. Gone are the days of Joe Lieberman, Joe Manchin, and even Kirsten Sinema. They put up a valiant fight, but as former Bill Clinton ally Dick Morris once said, “I didn’t leave the party, the party left me.”
So, while there may have been some effort to try and hide the massive left slide of the Democrats, at least for a little while, now, all bets are completely off. This week, the message is that they don’t have to hide it anymore, and they will not hide it anymore. The band-aid is being ripped off, and the new Democrat Party is in full view for all the world to see. So, what will Americans get with the new Democrat party, the one political nerds have seen coming for some time? Oh, you’re looking at it, but there is bound to be much more.
Let’s start before you would ever walk in the door to the Democrat National Convention. Take a look around outside the convention, and you see a sea of anti-Israel, pro-Hamas protesters surrounding the United Center. The Democrat party used to be the political home of Jewish Americans. But you have to wonder, after the complete embrace of people who will shout, “We are Hamas,” by Democrats as a direct result of a massive cave-in to the Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib wing of the party, the wing that now holds sway over the Democrat party, how many American Jews are suddenly not at all feeling at home? At this point, can you even describe it as just a “wing?” Let’s not forget that embedded in that group on the outside, you will find Black Lives Matter. Let’s talk about the utter hypocrisy and sheer irony of the presence of BLM. They are not exactly fond of the police, you know, the same police who are protecting them as they protest whatever grievance they are protesting today. But they have also shown up in a city that, just over the past weekend, saw 30 people shot, five of them fatally. Much of that violent crime is black-on-black crime. Do those black lives just not matter because they were not taken by a white cop? Do Black Lives Matter even know the names of any of those 30 people? Not likely. Then there is “Antifa,” short for “antifascist.” They are anything but antifascist. They have no tolerance for any other viewpoint than their own and will hunt anyone down and beat them to a pulp for espousing one in their presence. Then there are the stray feminists dressed like abortion pills roaming around, probably near the van offering free abortions and vasectomies. Because nothing says we love families more than the abortion and vasectomy van down by the river. Rounding out the periphery of the party of the Star Wars bar scene inhabitants is the “LGBTQ for a Free Palestine.” Who wants to tell them?
Once you get inside, take away the vestiges of a political convention, and you might have a gathering of what looks like just normal Americans. But here is the dirty little secret. They are not. And the reason they are not is because they are okay with the people on the outside who say they represent all of them. The people who define the Democrat Party now are the ones who want drag queens reading to your children. They are the ones who want your daughters undressing and competing in sports with biological men. Because for them, it’s all normal, it’s all okay. It’s all just fine.
This week, the Democrat party no longer has to hide who they really are. They no longer have to try to explain away all the things they really represent and what they really believe. Because the people inside the convention have turned the Democrat party over to the people outside the convention, it is their debut, the debut of the new Democrat party, the authentic Democrat party. For anyone who may still have doubts, don’t. This is who they are. In all its twisted glory, meet the new Democrat party.
