The American left has always been enamored with all things European. The reason, anything European is way more sophisticated than anything these hopelessly right-wing American rubes could come up with. It’s just so…European. Funny thing is though, they don’t seem to like certain European customs enough to actually move there so they could enjoy more of them. Ask them about European high taxes, and in some places, their less-than-free speech, and their intolerance of things like pronouns, and you won’t find any American lefties packing their bags anytime soon.
But now, it looks like there might be some bad news for American leftists, not just in Europe, but around the world. In places around the world where a kinder gentler form of socialism has been tried for several years, the citizens are suddenly electing conservatives as their leaders. And the reaction of the worldwide left is glorious. In Argentina, conservative Javier Milei was elected on November 19. He won in a decisive victory and has promised things like making the U.S. dollar the national currency over the Argentine peso in an effort to “kill hyper-inflation.” He is a self-described “climate skeptic.” He has stated on that topic, “I do not deny climate change. What I am saying is that there is a temperature cycle in the history of the Earth…Therefore, all those policies that blame humans for climate change are false.” Among the many government agencies he plans on axing, is the environment ministry. In a country that is 92 percent Catholic, even though less than 20 percent are actively practicing, he has called his fellow Argentine, Pope Francis out for who he is, as a “Jesuit who promotes communism.” He has made noise about possibly cutting ties with China and Brazil who are Argentina’s top trading partners. He followed those statements saying he “did not make pacts with communists,” and that “I am going to be aligned with the United States, Israel, and the free world.” But so far, no breaks like that have been announced.
In the Netherlands, conservative Geert Wilders was elected Prime Minister last week. He is being called the “Dutch Trump.” And while the worldwide liberal media is trying to make that a negative, his supporters see it as a big positive. Wilders and his party also won by wide margins. He has been around Dutch politics for quite a while. After the 9/11 attacks in the U.S., the European media began describing him as “anti-immigrant” and “anti-Islamic” for his views on large numbers of Muslims immigrating to The Netherlands. Wilders was looked upon much like Donald Trump was in 2015, as not a serious candidate. He ran on a largely populist agenda, like proposing The Netherlands’s exit from the European Union, withdrawing The Netherlands from any international climate agreements, ending Dutch aid to Ukraine, and a massive reduction in immigration. Wilders is also unafraid to call out the problem of huge numbers of Muslim immigrants to The Netherlands, and even called for a ban on the Koran and the shuttering of Mosques.
It would seem that in various places all over the world, people have gotten a good look at what socialism does for their country, and they want no part of it. Geert Wilders has been around long enough to know what caving to minority groups of immigrants does for national pride and identity; it destroys it. You can immigrate to The Netherlands, and you are welcome to be proud of your own heritage. But if you are going to live there, you will recognize the fact that it is Dutch culture and not any other, that is dominant. Javier Milei and his countrymen have had a front-row seat to the evils of socialism just by watching the downfall of Venezuela. Europeans have had their fill with the transgender agenda as well, and many of those nations are placing more restrictions on transgender healthcare for minors.
The anti-socialist movement is also taking place closer to home. Canadian elections are not until October of 2025, but our friends to the north may be ready to give Justin Trudeau and his near-dictatorial tendencies the boot as well. Canadian polls have the conservative party and their candidate for Prime Minister Pierre Poilievre up over Canadian Liberals by a considerable margin of 39 to 30 percent. Poilievre made news in October when he was seen trying to get a reporter to define “left-wing” and “right-wing,” and to name people who claimed he was “taking a page out of the Donald Trump book,” and to define exactly what that meant.
So, what might this all mean for Americans in 2024? Good question. Joe Biden is hemorrhaging support from key Democrat voting blocs like blacks and young people. As the Biden administration insists that what people are seeing with their own eyes at the grocery store and the gas pump is somehow just a mirage, all that gaslighting is taking its toll. Add to that, Soros-backed blue city prosecutors who do nothing but encourage crime by letting criminals off the hook, while grandmothers who barely stepped foot on the grounds of the Capitol on January 6 rot away in jail. More and more Americans see their nation sliding further and further toward socialism, and they don’t want any part of it.
Is it a good indication that Donald Trump may be re-elected in 2024? As Europe and other places around the world begin to reject socialism for freedom, maybe. Turns out that putting the interests of your own country before those of others seems to be beneficial to all.
America needs to hit rock bottom before they realize that Socialism Is The Devil as Bobby Boucher would say.
