Welcome everyone! My name is Becky Noble, and I want to welcome you to my new venture here at Substack! Welcome to Gumshoe Politics!
I will begin by telling you a bit about myself. After spending 30+ years in the health care industry as a Pharmacy Technician, I decided that if I wanted to try something new, I had better do it before I am too old. I graduated from Regent University this past May with a degree in Journalism. Turns out you can teach an old dog new tricks! You can also see my work at ThePoliticalInsider.com. While I adore writing at TPI, I also want to branch out a bit and write about the issues and topics that really get under my skin, the things I suspect get to many others as well.
I am a proud Conservative. Yes, that’s Conservative with a capital “C.” I believe in the power of the individual, not government. I believe in low taxes, a strong military, energy independence, small business owners, free markets, and good old American entrepreneurship and competition. I believe that America should project strength abroad, so that our allies have no doubt they can rely on us, and our adversaries will think twice before moving against us.
I chose the name “Gumshoe Politics” because, when I thought about what it is I want to do here, I thought of journalism the way it used to be. I thought of that tenacious Fedora-wearing reporter with the Press credentials stuck in his hat. That guy did not hide behind his typewriter and hope the story would come to him. He spent a little shoe leather hunting it down. When he found stories, he reported them, just the way he saw them. Today, things are different. Journalists break cardinal rules. They make themselves the story. They inject their opinion where it doesn’t belong. They call what they do “news,” when we all know damn good and well it’s not. I think we all know also that freedom of speech is in an extremely precarious position. The left is under the impression that, if they don’t like what you say or think, they can just shut you up and then proceed to make your life miserable for having said or thought whatever it is that triggered them. I will say what I want, when I want, and how I want.
But there are some good things about how things have changed too. I can tell you what happened, but I can also posit an opinion or two about it as well. I will hope you agree with me, like what you read, and keep coming back. If you don’t agree, that’s fine too. It’s something else we seemed to have misplaced in America, the art of debate and disagreement. I want to say up front, Gumshoe Politics comes from a Conservative lean. The opinion you find here will lean Conservative as well. But as for political parties, I have big beefs with both. I am not afraid to call out squishy useless Republicans when necessary. The great Andrew Breitbart once said that “politics is downstream from culture.” I believe that is true. So, while I do like the meat and potatoes of politics, I will talk about cultural issues as well. If we are going to talk about where we are in politics, we must dip our toes into the culture to find out why.
Each week, I will do my best to bring you something different, unique, and hopefully, something thought-provoking. But sometimes, we need to have some fun too. I will try to make Gumshoe Politics a stuffiness free zone.
So, I am very excited to again, welcome you to Gumshoe Politics, Conservative Journalism the way it should be.
I liked what I read about you. Lived in Ozark, MO from 1995-2013. Loved it and still have family there. I subscribed. Look forward to your articles. I too am conservative. I too have issues with some republicans. Stay safe and true to character and integrity.
