Hey everyone! Happy Monday! So glad to be back after a nasty bout of COVID! So this week’s Discussion of the Week is of course about all of the explosive information coming out about the goings on behind the scenes at Twitter. We are only seeing the beginnings of the extent that Twitter was suppressing the free speech of Americans. In the end, will anyone be held accountable for this horrific violation of our most basic of rights as Americans? What do you think?
At a minimum, several of the former Twitter executives responsible for making the decisions could be the defendants in a large number of lawsuits by Twitter account holders who were the targets of suspensions, removal of posts, "shadow banning", etc., in violation of the terms of service. The tougher question is whether there will be "smoking gun" evidence of government officials explicitly asking for posts to be removed or accounts suspended/terminated, which would be First Amendment violations. Even then, it would have to wait for a Republican administration to prosecute. As we saw during the Obama administration, the DOJ in the Biden-Harris administration will ignore even clear violations of law committed by either members of their administration or by Democrat-friendly members of the Trump administration.
I agree. I don’t think they have gotten to involvement by the federal government. Like I said I definitely think this is all the top of the iceberg. And also, like you said, it will take a Republican administration to do any prosecuting. But by then, will there be statutes of limitations that run out? Great comment Michael!
There must be accountability, or we cease to be a constitutional republic! Once again, Trump was right! The 2020 election was rigged!
